On November 10, 2017 10-year-old Ashawnty Davis hanged herself in her bedroom closet after being bullied at her Elementary School in Aurora Colorado.
Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident. According to the American Society Positive Care of Children, 28% of U.S. students are experiencing getting bullied in grades 6-12.
Blown Away Beauty Bar took notice of the bullying epidemic after Keaton Jones’s video about his own experience with bullying went viral. Blown Away is hosting a fundraiser to support Keaton Jones on January 3rd, from 8 am-5 pm and donating all proceeds from blowouts to Speak Out Against Bullying Inc. Speak Out Against Bullying, Inc. advocates for social and civic changes to inspire a call to action against bullying through public awareness and education, providing resources to the community at large.
The owner of Blown Away, Whitney, said that the entire salon was affected by Jones’s heartfelt video and some of the stylists experienced their own bullying in high school.
Since Blown Away opened in July 2014, $5,000 has already been raised and donated to several charities including the Shea Center, Laura’s House, JDRF, BeKind, Mitchell Thorp and more.
